A Brooks Art the new gallery in Hoxton Street is housed in a former Florist and Fruiterer that has been creating and selling flowers and displays for over a century. The shop and building date back over 200 years and are part of the Hoxton Street Conservation Area. The name ‘A Brooks’ has been preserved and will be used for the gallery project referencing the florist’s history and place in the Hoxton street market culture and community.
Over the past 200 years Hoxton Street has seen many changes from brothels and bawdy taverns to traditional pie and mash shops to theatre and comedy. Hoxton Street now looks ahead to another era of regeneration with a new revitalized market and a new wave of creative input that we look forward to being part of!
We open on the 3rd May with a solo show by the UK artist Sam Nightingale. Hope to see you there!
